Tag - I think you are an awesome girl...

Friday, 28 August 2009

...aww thank you sooo much Nikki (CocoBella) for tagging me!

So, the objective is to list 10 random facts about yourself & to then tag 10 blogs. Here we go...

~1~ I'm incredibly mathematically inclined, hence the reason why I chose it to study at University! I also hope to teach Maths to kids one day, bring a little bit of, you know, coolness to their lives in school :)
~2~ I'm a very petite lady...5'3" to be honest. *Sigh* So there goes my Catwalk dreams!
~3~ I sing (...I actually applied to go on X-factor this year, but it turned out that the call out date was on the day of a very important Physics Exam...! bummer.) and play the piano (Grade 3 Candidate, yh baby!)
~4~ I'm the oldest of four Children and it gets soooo unbelievably tiring to always get the most responsibilty...all the damn time! *Thinks* I wonder what these people will do without me after I go off to Uni!
~5~ I used to live in West Africa...good times.
My dad currently lives and works there because his companies HQ is there. He comes in to town frequently, but i always miss him soo much when he's gone. :(
~6~ I have a little bit of OCD (Obsessive Cleaning Disorder) and I hate mess and dirt!
~7~ I use the phrase "sort of like" wayy too much. I need 2 stop. lol
~8~ I Looovvve the colour Yellow! It's beautiful!
~9~ 2007 was a very bad year for me...! I hate to even remember it. But i guess I wouldn't be the person I am today, if that year never existed.
~10~ I want to make some kind of difference in this world! So I ask God every day to help me reach out to people and help them, No matter how insignificant that help may seem :)
I'm going to break the rules a bit here...and tag all of you awesome ladies.
I Can't just pick 10...!

A Modern take on the 80's - Balmain

Wednesday, 26 August 2009

The era of the Baggy off-the-Shoulder top, jumpsuits, leggings and Shoulder pads has rapidly crept into trends of the NOW.

Well, I wasn't alive in the 80's but my mum was.
Having looked through some old photographs of her during that decade...i have noticed many similarities, in the way she dressed, with what i've seen around recently.
According to mama, that was a fun time for her.
Care free and upbeat.
She wasn't afraid to take risks and experiment.
I admire her for that.

One of my favourite designers at the moment for A/W 2009 is the divine Balmain.

The very vibrant blues, sequins and the attention drawn to the shoulders, that are very exisitent in the designs, is what has got me.

Gosh...I wish i could afford some of the stuff, but for now i'll be on the hunt for Dupes!

I mean, just check out the booties...

...Simply marvelous.

My Favourite Mascaras...

Tuesday, 18 August 2009

Those who know me, or have heard my rants about why my sister was blessed with the best lashes in the world, and not me, know I have tried almost every mascara under the sky...
(I mean except for those ridiculously priced ones. Hey, I'm not rich...yet! ;))

...and so far I have found only a few that do it for my sad excuse of lashes!

So i'm going to share these fab finds with you!

I use all of them interchangebly (Whichever I grab first) and I don't have an explicit fave out of the bunch, they all just seem to do the job!

Warning: Quite Picture heavy!

~~~
MARY KAY
Ultimate Mascara
The First one is my Mary Kay Ultimate Mascara (£11.50).
I have to say that at first i was a bit skeptical to buy this one. The main reason was because i hadn't purchased anything from MK beforehand and had nothing to go buy, however I'm so glad i did in the end because I have found that it is in fact amazing.
It volumises and separates my lashes and leaves behind NO Clumps!
BENEFIT
Bad Gal Lash
This is the mascara that i got for free in an issue of Glamour Mag a couple of months ago (I read good reviews about it on a few beauty blogs and because of the great deal i bought 3 mags, just so i would have a backup of it, lol)
The wand is super big and the formula is great, and this one really extends my lashes!
MAYBELLINE
Colossal Volum' Express
My Colossal (£6.84) has made quite a number of appearances in my makeup tutorials and fotds!
It's bright yellow packaging is hard to miss which is why i always grab it!
Love, love, love it!
MAYBELLINE
Great Lash
The oldest of the bunch (£4.88).
My "Vintage" mascara!
I actually teefed this from my mum when i was about 14 or 15.
It was my very first (Not this particular one, the actual product!).
The small wand allows for precise application and the formula is black-BLACK!
*NOTE* ~ Until i stumble upon another God send, these will remain the ones i swear by.
Thanks soo much for stopping by!
xoxo,
**PS** What do you think of my NEW photography skillz..huh, huh?? lol
Messin' around with Alan and Kezzie Wezzie & Funny Story.
Sunday, 9 August 2009
Earlier on that evening...
Daddy had just loaded our accounts with our allowances and what did we do??
Yup..we went Shoppinggg!!!
lol
Late night shopping on Oxford Street!
Gotta Love It!
Got some awesome stuff that will be featured in upcoming Fashion Look Posts!
I Love hanging out with these two...even though they drive me up the wall sometimes, they are incredibly hilarious!
Funny Story: When we got to Euston Station to change for the Victoria Line, The station operator announced the the escalators were out of order, so we began the long descent down to the platform (...bear in mind that we only had like 2 hours left till the shops closed and we wanted to make it time, to do enough browsing and hopefully buying).
There was this lady that was so slowww and as the story of our lives go, we happened to be right behind her. She had loads of bags and looked like she was struggling.
As we have been brought up to be helpful to others...we offered her some help...
What does she do?
She screams right back at us, saying, and i quote...
"Get your bloody hands of my things"!
Shocked at her response, we exchanged glances with everyone else on the escalator!
Kezia, as usual, bursts into hysterics and Alan and I just stand there looking at this woman
(No longer a Lady in my eyes!)
So we decided to just leave it..let her hurry up and get off, so we can go about our business.
As she was getting of the escalator, "BAM!"
She falls flat on her face and all of her damn bags she was trying to protect scatter all round!
What did every one do after the very loud "ahhhh"?
We started laughing, there were a few gasps and sighs but mostly laughter!
After a while we felt bad though...so we helped her gather her "things" up!
We didn't even bother to wait and see if she was going to thank us!
Wow, she looked Stupid! Her conscience would prick her forever more!
Moral of the Story: Turn a blind eye to people in need! NO, I JOKE! Still help people anyway because your reward will come from a much higher place!
~~~

We finally got to the Shops, bought a few things and took pix afterwards! :)

Look at Alan lookin all geeky and Kezia, ever so gorgeous...she'll love that, lol!

Me texting...what i do best! lol
My Tops from H&M (£7.99) just in case you wondering! Bought it on the day, I couldn't resist, I had to wear it! :)

What an evening!
Have you ever had a similar experience?
xoxo,
Shirley

I got extensionsss!!!

Seeing how Fab they look on Muhsine (bubblegarm) made me take the plunge once again!

I've had extensions in before...from full/half head weaves, bonding, braids to corn rows.
You name it, i've had it done!

But i've never been as happy as i am with this!

These are sew ins...nearly a full head weave, but my hair at the front is left out!

My Hair Stylist Lily V.'s got Skillss!
lol!

The hair is of very good quality (Closest thing to Human hair ~ 100% i believe, 16 inches, wavy) so I can curl it, straighten it, do what ever and I can be as flexible as i want in terms of partings and such. oo, oo, and do you know, I can even Shampoo them!! haha.
Brilliant!

Extensions are lovely...they give your hair more body, volume and length...
...And of Course it looks Glamorous!

I feel like a Celebrity, hehe!!

So yeah...what do you think of it?
Have you had extensions in before?

Lemme know y'all! lol

MakeUp Tutorial - My Qipao Inspired Look

Tuesday, 4 August 2009

Hey everyone!
I felt like i needed to do a makeup tutorial because it's been ages since i did one.

I got inspiration from my Qipao, a traditional Chinese dress (Pronounced Chee-Pow).

What serves as a worthy testament to the beauty of the Qipao is, it does not require the wearer to pep up the look with accessories like scarves and belts. It's designed to show off the natural softness of the female form.

I love learning about different cultures and traditions.
With a world so big, there is always something to discover!

Hopefully you will enjoy the tutorial and possibly try out this look too!

Odd Pic...
The stick was really poking at my scalp, lol

What I used:-

Eyes
All colours are from the 120 pro palette.
L'Oreal Super Liner
Benefit Mascara
Rimmel Kohl Liner
Beauty Nation Lashes

Face
MAC Mineralise Skin Finish foundation
Victoria Jackson Pink Blush

Lips
Home made Lip colour
(Vaseline and nude e/s)
Nail Colour ~ Rimmel I ♥ Lasting Finish polish in "Double Decker Red"
Annnndddd, here's the video...
