Diamonds are a girls best friend.

Thursday, 31 December 2009

One of my favourite bloggers Zoe recently hit the 2000 follower mark. Congratulations girlie! :D
To celebrate she is having a Diamond themed contest and this is my entry for it.

I find diamonds to be very glamourous and when I think of them , I think Sparkly and girly, so I created this look based on that.

Make-up Breakdown

Eyes

I primed my eyes with Too Face Shadow Insurance as usual. I then followed by basing the lid with a greyish/black shadestick (MACs Sharksin).
Using a flat shading brush, a matte purple eyeshadow (MACs Shadow lady) was applied all over the lid and slightly blended into the crease.
To add sparkle, I followed with a purple pigment (Radio Waves by Facefront) sweeping it into my crease and blending it upward toward the brow bone.

My brow bone, temples and cheek plain, were highlighted using MACs Filament.

For even more sparkle, I applied a glittery silver gel liner (Collection 2000's Glam Crystals in Glitz) to my lower lash line and drew tiny stars and dots on my temples.

I finished off with a bit of mascara and false eyelashes.

Face

I stippled on my cream foundation (MACs Studio Tech) using a duo fibre brush and finished it with my MSF foundation. I blushed on a light peachy pink mousse blush (Maybelline Dream Mousse  in Peach Satin).

Lips

Lippy/Gloss combo: Maybelline's Ambre Rose and Crystal Rocks, topped with a bit of glitter.

Shirley Recommends...

1. Ambre Rose ~ Maybelline Color Sensationel Lipstick
2. Crystal Rocks ~ Maybelline Water Shine Gloss
3. Radio Waves ~ Facefront Cosmetics Paint Me Perfect
4. Peach Satin ~ Maybelline Dream Mousse Blush
5. Glitz ~ Collection 2000 Glam Crystals Dazzling Gel Liner

The look is also going to serve as my NEW YEAR's EVE look! :D

Have a very happy new year everyone.

MakeUp Look - Sleek Sunset Palette Look

Saturday, 26 December 2009

I was inspired by Rai's gorgeous Holiday Inspired Look and so I wanted to re-create it using products I have.

(...but honestly, i would love to get my hands on some Nyx! lol.)

I used my sleek sunset palette to do just that. :D

The gold from the pallette was swept across the lid and the cranberry red was blended into the crease.
My upper eye-lid was lined with a black liquid liner and using a black kohl pencil, i lined and tight-lined my eyes, popped some falsies (£land falsies!) to finish off the look.

I'm so happy with the quality of this pallette, and to think it was bought for only £4.99. It is definatley one I would recommend.

Also, if you'd like a chance to win one of these, i'm having a mini giveaway where you can,
just CLICK HERE for more info.

My face was kept natural, Foundation and a bit of bronzer on my cheeks with a simple nude lip (Scandalous beauty style!) :D

What do you think??

My Favourite Hairstlyes.

I get a lot of requests from my subscribers and readers to do hair tutorials of hair styles i've worn in previous videos, so i decided to do it.
Most of them can be achieved by everyone, but some may be for people with mid-length to long hair. Just test them out, see what works for you.

I will be doing more videos like these as I found it quite fun and easy to do!

Here's the first part...

I hope this is helpful to some of you!

Fashion Look & FOTD.

Thursday, 24 December 2009

Here's what I wore today!

It's a simple outfit for a day out, shopping, cinema or meeting friends!

I relaxed my hair on Tuesday and I love the way my stylist blow dried it, it left my hair looking ever soo sleek and lovely! ^.^

My make-up was kept on the neutral side...a pop of MAC Amber lights on the lid with some Tempting and Carbon for definition of the outer corners. I curled my lashes and applied Maybelline's Colossal and lined/tight-lined my eyes with a black kohl pencil by Gosh. Just for fun i put on falsies! :)
I also wore my favourite Lippy/gloss combo...17 Honey Frost and MACs Entice.
For my face, it was the usual...MACs MSF foundation and Format blush.

Top ~ H&M
Cardi ~ New Look
Scarf ~ Gift
Denim Leggings ~ Primark
Boots ~ Primark
Earings ~ River Island
Pearls ~ Primark

Nathaniel.

Saturday, 12 December 2009

My little brother Nathaniel was so excited on the phone today. Apparently he spent the day decorating the house with Kezia my sister and that's what made him so giddy.

He told me about all the things he had in mind to get for the whole family for Christmas. For me, he would get loads of MAC make-up "...so that you can put on your blog Shirley." For my other siblings he would get iMACs "...they complain tooo much about their laptops Shirley." he says. For my mummy and daddy he said he would take them to M&S and buy them nice outfits. How sweet.

It seems like in the short months i've been away, he has grown up quite a bit. I miss him and can't wait till I see him.

I bet it'll be a different story after a day with the little bugger...Mr. Mischief. ¬_¬

Something else he said that made me wish I was with him at that precise moment to give him a big hug was when he said "...but Shirley, the best present is that i would be a good boy so everyone will be happy." Awwwww.

This is him messing around with my web-cam some time ago.

Poserrrr...

MakeUp Tutorial - Rihanna Inspired.

Tuesday, 8 December 2009

Ever since I saw her rocking this eye makeup look (Bright eye liner or Shadow on the lower lash line) i'd wanted to try it out.
I think it's a cool way of doing your eye-makeup and it doesn't require any special skill whatsoever!

Here she is with a blueey green.

Here she took it to another level with the hot pink.

The red here is a lot edgier but still elegant.

In all the photo's i've come across of her, she usually has a nude or soft orangey-gold eye lid and a very thin line of black liquid liner. For lips she usually has them nude or pink and her cheeks always look lightly bronzed with a hint of a peachy blush.

Here's my re-creation of it, using my new Sleek Sunset Palette.
(...that i got yesterday. I just had to have it after seeing the amazing swatches on other beauty blogs!)

Review - Remington Wet 2 Straight Straightners.

Monday, 7 December 2009

This straightner was sent to me (...for free.) to try out and review.

With regard to using heat products (straightners/curlers) I TRY and limit myself to using them once a month.
Well because I think that using them very often on one's hair can cause damage (speaking from experience!)

I went ahead and gave it a go, just to see how it would turn out...because you never know!
I did have pre notions about it...having to apply direct heat from a straightner to wet hair made me shudder...but i've recently learned that there's no point in coming to a conclusion without ever having tried something...

Anyhoo, On to the "write up" of the experiment with Afro Hair!

On the Box:

No need to blow dry. Listen to the sssound...that's steam hydration therapy, locking moisture in for kinder longer lasting results. Our highest grade ceramic coating lasts the lifetime of the straightner. Infused with frizz resistant micro conditioners which evenly emit through the coating.

The Process:

After I washed and conditoned my hair, I towel dried it thoroughly and sprayed it with a heat protectant. I then parted my hair into two halves. The first half for straightening (Wet Setting) and the other half for blow drying then straightening (Dry Setting).

I proceeded to straighten the first half of my hair, small section by section, until it was dry/straight.

I then blow dryed the other half and used the straightners on the dry setting.

What I think:

Wet Setting.

It felt like I had to put in more effort, as i had to go over the sections quite a few times before it actually dried. It left my hair looking quite thinned out.

Dry Setting.

My hair didn't look as thin and flat as the first half, but it still required effort.

Overall.

Now i've tried and tested it, I can now come to a conclusion...
I think its an ok straightner, but to be honest I won't recommend it for Afro hair.

I'm going to stick to the conventional way of doing things...either blow drying then straightning with my GHDs when i need to or just air drying and then wrapping my hair.

I'll be passing it to my flatmates to test it out.
