Shirley's Top 5 : Blushes

Saturday, 25 September 2010

Blush is the easiest way to bring a healthy, natural looking glow to one's skin and applying it is also very easy!
There are lots of different kinds, from powdered (which can be applied by lightly sweeping it across your cheeks with a brush) to cream blushes (dotted on your cheeks then blended in with a brush or even your fingers!).

Today I'll be sharing with you my top 5...

MAC : Peaches...

...is a sheertone peach blush which is easy to apply. It's very natural looking, and makes my skin look like it's glowing from within. It goes so well with blue eyeshadow too!
Great for medium to light skintones!

MAC : Plum Foolery...

...is slightly on the shimmery side, but gives off a nice glow.
I think this works well with all skin-tones!

Topshop : Neon Rose...

...is a cream to powder blush that I like to pop on when I don't have any foundation on. I have oily skin, but I still like using cream blushes. The "to powder" bit really helps, as it gives a matte finish!
Can also be used as a base for powder blushes, oh and it's a gorgeous lip colour too!

Sleek : Flushed...

...is a matte blush with a plummy undertone. One sweep is all I need for my cheeks to look lush!
Very flattering on darker skin tones too!

The Body Shop : Coral...

...is a shimmery two-toned blush that can be used to summerize one's skin!

From Left to Right : Flushed, Plum Foolery, Neon Rose, Peaches, Coral

Tips & Tricks:

1. Lightly pinch your cheeks, and the colour that appears can be used as a guide to picking a blush colour!

2. When using Powder blush, always keep it in one direction, or else you're prone to streaking!

3. Liquid and Cream blushes are better applied before powder.

What are your top five blushes or do you have any reccomendations, tips or tricks?
Please do share! :D

**PS : I intend to turn this into a series of posts/videos, where I'll talk about my top 5 items... of either makeup, fashion, and whatever may be of interest to me... Yes? lol! x

Outfit Inspired by Vanessa from The Saturdays.

Monday, 20 September 2010

If you don't already know, I'm a huge fan of The Saturdays, love their music and fashion taste and I'm constantly getting inspired by them! The other night, their reality TV series 24/7 aired, and I thoroughly enjoyed watching them get up to mischief, exciting travels and the like!

My outfit today was inspired by the outfit Vanessa wore in their new video . I've done a similar post like this in the past, and quite a few of you liked it, so yay for another one! :D

Vanessa's the one pictured on the far left! She's sporting a lovely Floral skirt, a Cami and cropped sleeveless Denim Jacket accesorised with a belt, and paired with Brown booties!
Very nice!

Here's my outfit...

One can always "Winterize" the outfit, by pulling on a pair of tights/leggings and wearing an Aviator Jacket, right? Hehe!

Lipstick : Sleek's Fuschia & MAC's Freckletone
Skirt : Primark
Cami : H&M
Belt : Primark
Cropped Denim Jacket : Topshop
Peep toe lace-up Boots : Dorothy Perkins

What do you think? Who's your favourite Saturday? :)

All about Black.

Sunday, 19 September 2010

(Mini MAC Haul.)

There are a few things that have been sitting pretty on my wishlist for a while now, and I used the opportunity while picking up the shadows I had hit the pan on (Carbon & Amber Lights), to finally purchase some of them.

I made the observation when photographing my purchases that I bought mostly Black things, hence the title of the post, Lol... I'm such a geek!

I picked up Blacktrack (Fluidline), Smolder (Eye Kohl), the brushes 266 and 214, oh and a 4 pan pro pallette to keep in my makeup bag!

Just thought I'd share! :)

The Art of Darkness Collection...

Sunday, 12 September 2010

Yesterday, Sammi and I made our way down to Beak Street, where the new Illamasqua Flagship Store is situated, to attend a preview of the Art of Darkness collection. We were the first few to see the new store, which was a huge privilage. It was spacious and very beautifully decorated right down to the fine details, like the sparkly floors and gleaming glass reception stand.

"a world where seeing is believing, and believing can be dangerous…
...a world in which the lines between the real and the mythical, the past and the future, the living and the dead are never clear...
…a twisted world where anything can happen."

Fascinating.

It was a wonderful banquet were we beauty bloggers gathered to see and play around with the new peices in the collection! I fell in love almost instantly with the first swatch of Scarab, a Deep Metallic Red polish (the polish I and the artist have on in the 9th and 10th picture) and I was so happy to find that I was generously sent away with it, as well as one of the Pure Pigments, in Ore (which i'll be swatching soon!).
This is by far my favourite collection from Illamasqua. The colours and tones of the polishes and pigments are right up my street!

The talented Creative Director Alex Box was also there working her magic, and created amazing looks on the models.

I enjoyed myself, and I'm sure everyone else did too. A great big thank you to Alex and her team for organising the event.

Thanks for visiting! I hope you like the photos and had a good read! :)

Freedom at Topshop.

Wednesday, 8 September 2010

In the little mall close to where I live, there houses a small Topshop Outlet where pieces from past seasons are sold at generous prices. I was so delighted when I discovered these beauties, that were only £2 each. How amazing!

I'm getting into rings a lot more these days (thanks to the incredible photos I source from .).
The lovely peach broche, I could attach to my blazer, or slide in my hair, and as for the earrings, they are just too cute.
I simply had to buy them!

Sunrise, Sunrise, Looks like morning in your eyes...

Saturday, 4 September 2010

I wanted to try out my new Makeup Store eyeshadow in Sunrise today. It's probably my new favourite shadow (After MAC's Amber Lights). It's a shimmery pigmented Orange that applies very smoothly onto the lid. I have it on with a winged eyeliner and defined lashes (Some mascara and falsies). I also used it as a blush for my cheeks!

What I have on the rest of my face:

MACs MSF Natural
TBS Bronzer
YSL's Golden Gloss No. 30

While rummaging through my nail polish drawer, I found an old favourite of mine, Rimmel's 60 Seconds Nail varnish in sunrise, (same name as the eyeshadow) and decided to pop it on.

I love it when I rediscover old favourites, don't you?

I took this photo of my lovely sister yesterday!

She woke up one morning and decided to dye her hair red. ...Oh how I love her sponteneity and her general love for life! Amazing individual she is! She's really rocking it!

What do you think?

*PS* Keep your eyes peeled for upcoming posts from her, she'll be guest blogging over here soon! Oh and you can follow her on Twitter , she'll be soo chuffed! lol!

Back to School.

Well, not me technically...it's my younger siblings (and the rest of England) that are back to school.
haha

This is sort of a back to school outfit, hopefully inspiration for those lovelies who are allowed to wear their own clothes to school! A simple pair of jeans and a plain white tee can never go wrong. Paired with different accessories and other pieces, you can constantly switch it up for every day of the week!

Here I've accesorised it with a thin waist belt, some leopard print pumps and a mustard cardi.

Jeans : Gap
Tee : Gap
Cardi : Gap
Belt : Primark
Pumps : Primark
Messenger Bag : Primark
Accesories : Topshop & Primark

I hope you like it!

**A little disclaimerwaimer: I work part time at Gap, so I receive Staff discounts (...Of how much i'm not to disclose on a public platform, such as this), but this doesn't affect my choices, as I buy what I like and what suits my taste. :)
