Brush With Fashion.

Friday, 19 November 2010

Last night I attended the launch of "Brush With Fashion" - a limited edition make-up collaboration with the London College of Fashion and The Body Shop. It is a collection of sustainable and cruelty-free make-up, with built-in brushes for the Spring 2011 season.

It was lovely to see models of all ages and sizes take to the catwalk wearing sustainable designs for Spring Summer 2011, created by alumni of LCF and emerging names of the fashion world, William Tempest and Jena Theo.

The models also showcased four looks created by LCF graduate Nikki Palmer, using the Brush With Fashion palettes.

After the show, we were treated to some bubbly and cupcakes backstage, and also had the chance to play around with the collection. I got to speak with the artists and learned the inspiration behind the collaboration as well as a few tips and tricks!

I had a marvellous time and was kindly sent away with a goody bag full of stuffies that I'll be swatching and reviewing soon! :)

The collection will be available in early Spring 2011.

Hope you like the pictures! :D

Pretty Girl Rock.

Friday, 12 November 2010

Eyes : Carbon, Blacktrack Fluid Line (MAC)
Cheeks : Peaches (MAC)
Lips : Entice (MAC)

I took this photograph some weeks back, when I was in London. It was inspired by the look Keri Hilson had in the promo images for the lead single "Breaking Point" of her new album "No Boys Allowed".
Ahhh I love Ms. Hilson! Her voice, her style and her demeanor!

She's sinced released a new song and video "Pretty Girl Rock" and I Love it! The melody, the lyrics, everything ..definitely something I can rock to! Hehe ^.^
In the video she pays homage to the leading ladies in music, past and present, from Diana to Janet!
Check it out below...

I just have to touch on something, made a very good point in her most recent video about Girls not being able to receive a complement when it comes their way, and it's very true.

There's this fear of sounding or looking conceited...but if you're confident and happy about yourself and the way you look, there is no harm in accepting a complement, all you have to do is say thank you.

Trust me, the people that insist you're conceited, are more than likely to be the jealous ones.
ooo you better stay away from them.. lool!

I guess that's why I like this song, it speaks about that.

**A little disclaimerwaimer: I do not claim to look like Keri Hilson, my makeup look was inspired by her. :)

**PS I filmed a new Hair Tutorial for the style I had on in the "Say you'll stay..." post. to watch it! :D

Literature.

Saturday, 6 November 2010

Last summer, while searching the shelves at WHSmith for potential summer reads, I came across a book called "The Old Girl Network". The catchy title and beautifully illustrated cover are what drew me close. It's a book by the author Catherine Alliott, and it's about a young lady called Polly, who finds herself helping a stranger to find his lost love, and in the process finds love for herself. One thing I have to say is, i'm a sucker for romance, so approving very much of the synopsis, I bought it. Catherine's writing style is just excellent! She captures the reader with every word. She's got a bit of a sarky vibe and I found that very entertaing when I read the book. I'm very sure that every young woman would somehow relate to the character Polly. The book had some interesting twists and turns, and was surprisingly not as cliche as some of the usual romance books go!

I was glad to find that there was a sequel to this book, "Going to far", which continues Polly's story. I also bought another of Catherine's bestsellers, "The Real Thing". I'm very excited to read both, and can't wait to share my thoughts with you.

The butterfly detailed journal pictured is from Topshop. I don't mind splurging on journals because I enjoy writing! This one's especially pretty and the leaves have the most amazing texture!

I'm also reading November's Issue of Vogue, and eagerly awaiting for December's.

What are your current/fave reads?
You can leave a comment or post about it on your blog, and link me to it! :)

Skin Care.

Thursday, 4 November 2010

An artist spends time in preparing his canvas, to create a masterpiece. We should treat our skin a bit like a canvas, and spend time taking care of it, so we can achieve great results.

Developing a good skin care routine is the secret to amazing skin and flawless makeup.

There are five main skin types, and you should identify what type you have, so you can choose which products best suits you. They are:

1. Normal Skin : Vibrant and supple skin, hardly ever any breakouts, regular sized pores.

2. Dry Skin : Tight skin, may have a few flaky areas, small pores.

3. Oily Skin : Shiny skin, prone to breakouts, large pores.

4. Combination Skin : Combination of normal, dry and oily skin, for example, T-zones oily and cheeks dry, with the rest of the face normal.

5. Sensitive Skin : Delicate skin, prone to allergic reactions.

The Routine.

FOUR key things your routine should include: Cleansing, exfoliating, moisturising and sun protection.

CLEANSING

Cleansing helps to remove dirt from the surface and clear any make up. They can come in wash or cream like forms. You need to find a good cleanser that tailors to your skin type. If you have dry skin, go for a creamy moisturising cleanser, and for oily skin, a clear cleanser. Some cleansers come with toners, which can be used to remove excess oil or dirt after cleansing, but unless it’s made to be used in conjunction with your cleanser, it’s not too important.

EXFOLIATING

Exfoliating removes dead skin cells and works to improve skin tone. Can be done up to three times a week if you have oily skin, but if you have dry or sensitive skin limit it to just once or twice a week. I recommend finding a nice scrub, or alternatively an exfoliating cloth to use with your cleanser.

MOISTURISING

Your skin needs moisture!! If you want to maintain smooth skin, then spend time moisturising it. (Tip: Be soft around the delicate areas such as your eyes and lips, circular motions around your cheeks and sweeping motions everywhere else.). Go for a light moisturiser if you have oily/sensitive skin and a hydrating moisturiser if you have dry skin.

SUN PROTECTION

The sun emits rays that can be harmful to your skin, so using sun protection helps prevent your skin aging or getting damaged. Some moisturisers come with SPF (sun protection factor) so that’s always something good to bare in mind when picking out one!

A few tips..

• Drink lots of water, as this helps keep your skin hydrated.

• Avoid products with harsh chemicals and unnecessary perfumes, as these may irritate your skin, especially if you have sensitive skin.

• Antioxidants found in foods such as berries and tea help keep your body healthy and toxins at bay!

• If you use makeup often, clean your tools, brushes and makeup, as bacteria can build up and cause breakouts.

• Sleep is very important. Get some!
