Beauty Bits & Bobs

Tuesday, 20 September 2011

It's been a while since I had a beauty binge. I convinced myself earlier this summer that I had way too much makeup and beauty products, and it would be criminal to spend any more money on bits I really didn't need.

It wasn't until I decided to do a clearout and got rid of so much stuff, that I realised my beauty and makeup drawers felt naked. Lol! So I compiled a wishlist of things I needed and wanted (we all know there's a difference between the two) and I've made allowance every now and again to buy things off the list! :)

On this occasion however, I felt I needed to treat myself, so here are some things I picked up on my most recent beauty binge!
(Hint : Click on the Prices to take you to where products can be purchased!)

Simple Kind To Skin Refreshing Facial Wash Gel, £3.25

The packaging honestly says it all. This facial wash is so beautiful and my skin really does feel refreshed after using it. I was a huge fan of this wash before I tried Neutrogena's Pink Grapefruit Wash, and whilst I still like that one, I feel I need this goodness in my bathroom to use every now and then!
FYI : This doesn't foam as it contains no foaming agents, and I know we all think that a facial wash (or any type of wash) has to foam in order to 'work', but trust me, it's not the case... it's a psychological thing!

CAUDALIÉ Beauty Elixir, £32

I learnt that CAUDALIÉ is a term used in French to describe the finish of wine: so the finer and higher quality a wine is, the more CAUDALIÉ it has! Hmmm, nice! :)
I often get quite Pore-y (if that's a word), and I was on the look out for a product that would help in smoothing out the appearance of my pores, and so decided to give this one a go! It smells divine!
I spritz this all over my freshly washed face, just before my moisturiser, and the finish is quite pleasant! It can also be used during the day as a refreshing spritz which is handy. And oh, look at that pretty matte glass bottle!

Pure Jojoba Oil, £10.79

I think this is one essential oil that every girl should have in her bathroom cupboard. It's multipurpose nature already sits well with me! If you look in the ingredients list of many great moisturisers and conditioners, you're bound to find it listed in there somewhere! For those who don't know, Jojoba oil is perfect for adding moisture and softness to your skin AND your hair.

How I use it for my...

.::Skin::.
It softens the skin to make it feel and look supple.

~ Moisturiser : For particularly dry areas, I massage the oil into the skin.

.::Hair::.
It helps to balance natural oil production (sebum) and is very good for dry, brittle hair.

~ Quick Hair Treatment : I rub a teaspoon of the warmed oil all over my hair and sit for a few minutes, then rinse, shampoo and condition.

NARS Eyeshadows, £16.50/ea.

Being a fairly new NARS fan, I thought it necessary to add these two beautiful colours to my collection! :)

Outremer, a Vibrant Blue is perfect for those days I want to make a statement with my makeup! Perfect with a soft peach cheek and nude lips.

Galapagos, a Smokey Brown with hints of Bronze and Gold. Gah, i'm in love with this eyeshadow, and to be honest, I haven't come across anything like it! It's a real beauty, and it will be taking it's place up there with my top Smokey Eye Look picks!

A very fun and easy way I'll be wearing my hair this fall, as I'm nursing it back to health!
If you want, you could add a styling serum or moisturiser before the braid, and spray it afterwards with a holding spray! I really like ORS Olive Oil moisturiser and Tresseme's Holding Spray! :)

Hope you try it!

Glossy Eyes & Berry Lips

Friday, 9 September 2011

This is a look that i've been longing to sport ever since I saw it on a model some time ago!
It's the glossy eye, achieved by using a flesh coloured eyeshadow swept across the lid, and a few dabs of vaseline! Ah-mazing huh? I thought a berry lip would compliment the look, so I mixed two of my favourite plum lipsticks to get this shade.

I hope you give it a go! :)

Headstart to Autumn ~ Shirley's Guide to Next Season's Trends!

Friday, 2 September 2011

I think everyone around me, from my little brother to my colleagues, know how excited I am for Autumn Winter Fashion. They've heard me go on and on about next season's trends, they've seen how excited I look when I come across new collections and they know how ready I am to put away my summer clothes!

Here are a few trends I've spotted while perusing the web, and flipping through my favourite fashion magazines (Vogue & Elle, but really.. do I even have to say it?? You know the score!).

Oh heavens. Christmas has come early. Being such a huge fan of polka dots, you can just imagine my  utter delight when I came across these beauties. Love.

The elegant and classy looking Pencil Skirt makes it's triumphant return. Hoorah...purely because I love the way the look! Perfect for boyish figures too.

Nothing quite as amazing as seeing a girl rock the androgynous look. Makes my heart pop!

Oo la la. Berry is so the new red. One thing I am happy about is the fact that maxi's/midi's are still going to be around for a while. I do love them.

The 'not so conventional' look. Make a statement with 'out of this world' pieces. I like the futuristic vibe of this trend!

Also, check out the Video I uploaded of me sharing my Wardrobe Staples for Autumn. I also share some of my favourite accesories! Hope you enjoy!

Next Up, Autumn Beauty! ;)
